Day 01 : Arrive in Delhi/Calcutta
Arrive at the airport in Delhi. Loben
Expeditions representative will meet you at the
airport to transfer to your hotel.
Day 02 : Delhi to Darjeeling (2134 m)
Transfer to airport for a flight to Bagdogra
takes 1 ½ hours. Up on arrival at Bagdogra you
will be picked up by Loben Expedtions trek
leader for a beautiful 3 hours drive to
Dajeeling town through lovely forests,. passing
tea garden and following the route of famous
“Toy Train,” of Darjeeling. Check in Traveller’s
INN, the balcony of hotel offers full views of
Darjeeling town, Himalayas & tea gardens.
Day 03 : In Darjeeling
A full day of guided sightseeing around
Darjeeling- Himalayan Mountaineering Institute.
After visiting HMI we will visit tea gardens,
monasteries, Lloyd's botanical garden which has
a varied collection of Himalayan flora &
Japanese Pagoda. Evening we will stroll around
Mall Road for a leisurely stroll amidst peaceful
surroundings and splendid views. The Road
starting and finishing at Chowrasta, Chowrasta,
a wide promenade atop a ridge lined with shops
and restaurants.
Day 04: DARJEELING TO YUKSUM (1760 m)
Drive from Darjeeling to Yuksum is another
wonderful day. We drive down to valley through
the beautiful tea garden to a town near by Testa
river, Jorthang. Here we take a short break to
explore the town and we continue our drive via
Tashiding taking the bifurcation road from here
to Yuksom. Yuksom was the first capital of
Sikkim and it was here that the first Chogyal
was consecrated by the three Lamas. We will
visit the spot where this ceremony took place in
1642.
Day 05: Trek Yuksom for Tshoka (2048 m)
A walk on a a path line up with sky embracing
trees and carpeted with leaves falling from
surrounding vegetation. We will break for a
lunch in the middle of forest in a small
clearance. After crossing river Prek Chu it is
another 1 hour climb to a small village -Bakhim.
We will further walk 15 minutes up hill. Here,
we will set up our camp just below the forest of
magnolia and rhododendron trees. The views of
valley are beautiful & picturesque.
Day 06: Trek Tshoka to Dzongri, (4050 m)
We cross Tsoka – a small Tibetan settlement with
few tea houses for Dzongri. A trail leads
through dense forest of rhododendrons, magnolia
& silver fur. We stop at Phedang for a lunch
with beautiful mountain views. A further
climbing of two hours reach us to Doring, a
little beyond Dzongri. We will camp at wide open
alpine meadow.
Day 07: In Dzongri (4050 m)
For those who feel strong - a walk to Dabla
Khang ( Dzongri Top) in the wee hours of the
morning provides one of the most magnificent
view of the mountains and the whole range of the
peaks can be seen with excellent sunrise effect
on Kanchenjunga. We descend down to camp for
breakfast. After some good rest we will explore
Laxmi Pokhari – a lake of wealth. Easy day.
Day 08: Dzongri – Ratong glacier– Bikbari (3800
m approx)
A little more than an hour of ascent takes us to
Dzongri la (4550 m). From here there are good
views across to the Ratong glacier and the peaks
of Kanchenjunga ranges. We descend to the valley
floor, here we will set up a camps. We continue
further from valley floor toward HMI base camp &
snout of Rathong glacier. After exploring, we
will walk back to our camps at Bikbari –guarded
by Kabru south, Kabru dome, Kabru north, Frey
peak, Forked peak & Rathong peaks.
Day 09: Bikbari – Thangsing (3930 m)
We trace back to Drongri but through the forest
of Rododendrum avoiding the pass and continue to
east for our next camp at Thangsing. A complete
day with mingle of walk through forest, ridge
top, crossing of river and then on alpine meadow
- up hill, down hill and some flat. We get view
of Kanchenjunga and the entire valley of Prek as
far Goche la – our destination. Thangsing camps
is on vast open meadow. View from here -
amazing!
Day 10: Thangsing – Samiti Lake – Lhamuna (3950)
Trek from Thangsing to Samiti Lake takes about
approx 3hrs its just a easy trek on a grazing
land. More or less flat to our next camp site
between the big boulders that protecting us from
strong blow of winds. After lunch – we could
climb one either side of mountain or could go
further toward Samiti Lake. The camps in actual
fact is in the base of Mt. Pandim
Day 11: Lhamuna – Goche La (4900 m )– Thangsing
(Day hike)
A really expedition experience day. We’ll make
early start up the moraine to Samiti Lake
(4200m) – the scared source of Prek river. From
here to Gochela is takes about 4 hours through
lateral moraines and sandy section of Zemathang.
Goche la offers uninterrupted views of
awe-inspiring east ridge of Kanchenjuga beyond
the extensive Talung glacier. Walk is very
streanous and challenging – so one who prefer
not to attempt can hike up to first views point
or second view point on same line. After a round
trip we will have lunch at Lhamuna and come down
to Thangsing
Day 12: Thangsing – Kokchurung - Phedong –
Bakkim
We trek down as far as Kokchurung and turn left
from here main trail to Dzongri. After a couple
of hours gradual descend though thick forest we
come to Phedong, here we rejoin with the main
trail of Dzongri. After a wonderful lunch we
further descend down to Bakkim with short break
at Tsoka.
Day 13: Bakkim - Yuksum
The trek from Tshoka to Yuksom takes about 6hrs.
Overnight stay in a hotel. Trek Ends.
Day 14: Yuksom to Kalimpong via Pemayangtse
monastery
It takes about 7 hours from Yuksom to Kalimpong
taking longer route via Kichepherri and Pema
yangtse monastery– two interesting destinations
of Sikkim tour. Kalimpong is a small hill resort
nestle between Delo & Durpen hills with
atmospheric hotels from the days of the British
rules. It used to be the hub of trade of India
with Tibet. This makes the whole trip with
superb combination of trekking, culture and
sightseeing. Evening stroll around Kalimpong
town.
Day 15: Transfer to Bagdogra airport
Transfer to Bagdogra airport for onward flight
to Delhi, takes about 2 ½ hours from Kalimpong.
Most of the flight from Bagdogra to Delhi are in
afternoon time. Delhi – departure to
home/optional extension. |
