- PEAK INFO -

Tibetan name 'Xixapangma' stands for “severe climate". Rising 8012 m above sea level is among 14 peaks of over 8000m, Shishapangma ranks last. It is only 8000m which stands entirely with in Tibet. The weather here is very changeable; tempestuous winds often beating up great drift of snow.....that why it was believed to be beyond the reach of human being in past. Some described it as “the black virgin peak". It was last unconquered 8000m peaks. Finally, in 1960 its way to top was paved & first ascent was made by Chinese team. Now it one of the most popular commercial expedition in Himalayas.

Shishapangma is made up of three sister peaks quite similar in height while two pinnacles with their respective height of 8008 meters and 7970 meters sits 200 m and 400 meters to the northwest of the main peak.

Anyone, who does not want to take high risk but still want to climb 8000 m peak and then Shishapamgna & Mt. Cho-Oyu are probably the best option. Cho Oyu & Shishapangma have been the focus of many commercial expeditions and has a comparatively high success rates.

Yet, its 8000m peaks and you should be mentally & physically prepared and should not attempt if you have doubt in your climbing. Logistically, you driving to base camp by luxury Japanese land cruiser jeep with two full days of acclimatize in Nayalam. A first town to stop after we left Kathmandu and then to base camp. Distance wish to reach Shishapangma base camp is not far, if required it can actually be rea in one day from Kathmandu.

Loben Expeditions,
shishapangma expedition led by Jarle Tra from Norway, made a record by climbing main summit from camp II. check out www.jarletraa.no. In 2004, Fredrik Ericsson became the first Swede to ski descend an 8000-meter peak when he skied from the central summit of Shisha Pangma (8012m) in Tibet.  check out www.fredrikericsson.com

We run expeditions to Shishapangma every season via normal north west ridge. Please find details if you’re planning to attempt Mt. Shishapangma summit.
