- PEAK INFO - |
MT. Cho-oyu Tibetan name 'Qowowuyag' refers to" the chief of all the respected teachers". Towering in the middle section of the Himalayas, it appears tall and majestic. Measuring 8210 m in height, it is listed as the sixth highest peaks in the world. Divided by the Northeast ridge and Southwest ridge, it straddles the Sino- Nepal border. The south side belonging to the Kingdom of Nepal and north side belonging to Tingri country of Tibet Autonomous region of China. We follow the northwest ridge to reach the summit of this 6th world highest peak. Cho-oyu is still unclimbed from south side due to its technical gradiant but is considered as one of the most technically straightforward from north side. Anyone, who does not want to take high risk but still want to climb 8000 m peak and then Mt. Cho-Oyu, is probably a best option.
Cho Oyu & Shishapangma have been the focus of many commercial expeditions and has a comparatively high success rates, for an 8000-meter peak.
First climb in 1954 by four people, H. Tichy, S. Jocher, Pasang Dawa and Lama, CHO-OYU, now has high percentage of summit rates every season. Still, nothing is easy above 6000 meters, it's 8000m. This is real expedition and rules are like that of Mt Everest & required complete & fully prepared expedition. You should be mentally & physically prepared and should not attempt if you have doubt in your climbing. Logistically, you drive to base camp by luxury Japanese land cruiser jeep with some days of acclimatize on way..
